Maserati's most expensive problem fixed (cheaply)!

Today I tackle the replacement of the rear control arms, the most expensive issue that affect the Maserati 3200, 4200 and Gransport. This part is no longer available, and is badly designed resulting in a lot of very nice Maseratis going to the trash heap. So I solved that problem! Glad you put this out there. Trying to convince my customer that the intake has to come off, when he swears it'll wiggle right out the front. Your video proved me right!
I struggled to get the thing off when it had nothing in the way!
Does the base of your scissor lift flex when locked ?
No
Looks bit scary
Natural selection.
So you can't pull a transmission, Rear wheel drive, its not high enough to put any kind of jack to hold anything, as a 30+ year mechanic my opinion is this lift is more trouble than it is worth, when I raise a car up at home I usually need to get under the middle, unless all you want to do is work at a wheel area and raise it up and say look I have a lift. Useless.
I've done engine swaps and transmission swaps on this lift. It fits in a home garage.
@@ShiftMotoring Sounds like someone trying to sell something.
@@simpleman2004 And yet, I'm not. Go figure.
I would make a ramp with concrete and solid bricks and dig a trench underneath will be more trustworthy and cost effective.
Can ay buy thees? Price?
yes you can! I'm still working on my website, but if you go to the MaseratiLife forums and send me a message I can help you there.
What gearbox did you mate this up to as im looking to put one in my z4 but unsure on gearbox options would like to use a 330d gearbox manual
Hi mate thanks for video 💪, Mate I have a tiny question for you,, three days ago me and my brother took his son Mazzi 2002 F1 gearbox and he modified it like crazy it has a 41 kms only still like new , anyway so we stop filling petrol , we start cat fantastic with no drama and my brother let it roll then he shift to 1 we want to take off it take of 1 meter then it won’t go on gears at all 🤦♂️🤷♂️,, We parked aside to see what happens, car won’t shift at all no sound for gear click as it should be it just stays on N” we turn it off then he try’s to start it unfortunately it won’t starts at all 🤦♂️ we check all kind fuses an relay nothing burned fuel pump is new ,, we put it on scanner it give us Code P1747: Reverse Gear Switch Absent ? Code P1746: Switch Stby , Absent !! Any idea what’s happening here ?? Many thanks Matt ☺️
You've got faulty wiring, it is a common fault. Drop me a line on the MaseratiLife forums and I'll talk you through it.
This is the fastest way to get a downvote!
Thanks for posting, looking good, car, wife, cat
Is there a weight reduction? Asking to try and justify such a thing on mine :)
I didn't weigh, them but they're a little lighter... not sure if it's going to make the difference you want though!
Great to see another video. Your comment “like a lot of things on this car assembly is not the reverse of disassembly” made my hair stand on end considering the current state of my car 😂
I have no idea how they managed it! There are several things I've come across where there is a specific way to assemble and disassemble and they're different. The worst was the headlining!
@@ShiftMotoringyes I have studied your headliner video multiple times and I am sure I will again. Currently my headliner is on the garage floor while I find someone to reattach the leather.
@@jd3nn1s I'll pray for you
This video is way to dark.
Do you mean emotionally? Unfortunately when you're a DIYer and not a pro, I don't have professional lighting. I do my best with what I've got!
Those look amazing! When will they be available? Will the MCV Blue Carbon Fiber be an available color option?
They're available now, if you message me on the MaseratiLife forums I'll help you out, but I'm putting them on my website this week. Yeah, blue is an option, though costs may vary with custom colours.
Could you elaborate on what about the front section you weren't happy with after your first attempt and why that required replacing the leather? I have removed my headliner and I think I have the same shrinkage on the rear, so I'm wondering whether I should be concerned about the front as well. Thanks.
Because it had shrunk so much I couldn't get the piece to line up correctly, so the only way to fix it was to replace it.
It is the best. Traded in my quick jack for this lift.
Question please: Does this lift, along with many others, have to be secured to the floor surface by some means?
It doesn't have to, but it is recommended
@@ShiftMotoring - Thank you for the reply!
Given the price of these things. You’re much better off buying a low profile 2 post lift…
I so want to buy an e38 318is coupe 👌🏼
Larini sound ?
Each component changes the sound, just getting Larini back boxes isn't enough.
Can't hardly hear with the freaking music constantly in my ear.
A product review without any product details, thanks for wasting my time.
Great analysis of the problem and explanation of your solution. I’m a little confused about the die casting parting line in the bushing hole. Wouldn’t that inner diameter be formed with a slide in the tooling?
It would've most likely been formed by tooling and then machined out for the final fit.
laying under a car used to be no big deal. Now I dread it
In the States, "quick jack" is the most popular diy brand. They have a lot of similar features except no connection between the 2 sides. Based on price and countless reviews, I'm definitely going to pull the trigger the next time they go on sale.
How much are they?
Do you make something similar for Gran Turismo?
:D I have a GranSport and I was looking for these home garage lifts! Pretty small venn diagram there!
Well done, informative video. Thank you.
Just get jack stands and put the wheel under the frame while working on car.
1.5m tall jack stands?
@@ShiftMotoring You don’t need to lift a car or truck up that high to work on it. If it’s a comfort issue then you probably shouldn’t be working on cars anyway.
@@shaniceervin1465 That would cut a lot of mechanics' careers short.
How does it affect the pinch welds on the unibody frame? I would suspect that they've been crushed and rolled over because of the flat surface of the scissor jack. There's rubber pucks with v-channels to be placed on the jack points for minimizing that type of damage you can purchase.
It comes with rubber pucks, but depending on the car and jacking points you may or may not use them. It won't damage the jacking points.
I sent a private message to your Facebook account
Or just buy a Toyota and not Maserati and you won’t need that lift
Where's the fun in that?
Or just eat salad and no meat and you'll be alive longer.
Or buy any other car than Maserati and you won’t need a lift
@@masterkang1024 says who ??
Right because Toyotas never need, brakes, oil changes or tires… Dumbass
Watched through the video, I have some question. Are these just placed on the floor or are they mounted in by bolt, adhesive, or anything else? Assuming these operated by hydraulic fluids, how often do you need to service the lift? Can it be operated via regular electricity from the household? Do you need to prep. the floor in anyway except for the usual cleaning, and making sure the floor is completely flat? Thanks,
They can be bolted down, mine isn't. You should regularly check any equipment, but I don't use it heaps so every 12 months or so I check everything. This specific model is fine on a 10A plug, not all of them are, some are 15A. Some models may have specific requirements for the concrete grade, but that's a question for the retailer.
@@ShiftMotoring Thank you for the reply. I'm looking for one for my home garage as well. But in my country these things are mostly imported from China and the welding looks really sketchy. I have yet to find one that looks like quality, except ones that are sold in bulk for car dealerships and mechanic shops.
There is no need to bolt it down , where is it going to go with a 2 ton car sitting on top of it ? LOL. The idea is that you can move it around if needed ! :)
where to buy?
Drop me a message on MaseratiLife
How about MORE details about that Specific Lift you're using? Anyone?
nice, thank you for this video!
how much ? can u link it in your comment ?
I put toyo r888r track tyres on my Gransport and now I can't get a burnout going for the life of me :( On the flipside, ridiculous grip levels!
Is there a solution for the front control arms?
Not yet, but I will be working on it soon. I've nearly paid off the costs of developing the rear ones then I'll start the front.
Omg you have an x1c too!! Mate it's like we're twins hahah
Safest i have seen.
Does anyone have any tips for aftermarket front brake discs?
If you want some just send me a message on the MaseratiLife forums. I've been meaning to put these on eBay but I haven't done it yet...
I would want to pull a transmission with that lift lol
A lot easier then on jack stands!
Thank you for the Video, Question regarding the failed alternator due to the loose battery connections as I think my car is suffering something similar. My symptoms where car battery would be randomly flat every couple of months and then increased in frequency to every couple of days until finally car wont start at all. I can now jump start the car, but as soon as I turn off car it will not restart unless jumped. I've replaced the battery a number of times, Same issue. Did you experience something similar?
You can buy an amp clamp relatively cheap and verify that the battery is charging if you need to know for sure. Usually just putting a voltmeter across the battery is enough to tell you if it's charging. It does sound like a bad alternator though.
Are you still offering your control arm setup on ML Forums as I see you directing others?
I am, I'm currently have a batch in production. Definitely drop me a message!
